I stood on the pier, Naval Base Yokosuka, in June of 1970 watching the USS Oklahoma City (CLG-5) pull into port. I was both excited and nervous about reporting aboard my first ship. There were signs on the pier saying "Welcome Home Shellbacks." I shouldn't have, but I had to ask "What's a Shellback?" I learned a lot the three and a half years I spent on her, and yes, I did find out what a shellback was. I saved a number of newspaper clippings, brochures and pictures I'd like to share with my shipmates, those who served aboard the USS Oklahoma City (CLG-5). Some pictures were scanned in from the Oklahoma City 1971-1972 Cruisebook. Enjoy. I hope to see some of you at a future USS Oklahoma City reunion.
