E Division is composed of approximately
25 electrician's mates (EMs) and 12 interior communications technicians (ICmen).
Almost every operation aboard ship, routine or emergency, reuires electric
power for its accomplishment. A ship that has lost electric power
has lost her capability as a fighter.
EMs are directly concerned with the operation and maintenance of the
equipment used to generate and distribute power circuits an equipment
throughout the ship.
The size and complexity of Oklahoma City require that a great amount of
circuitry be devoted to the transmission of information from remote
locations to various command centers within the ship. The
maintenance and repair of this circuitry is the main function of the ICmen.
This covers everyting from the sound-powered phones to the voice tube bell
circuit, from the latest gyro compass systems to closed circuit television
- with a vast array of equipment in between. |
